章振邦高级英语语法书上说，rather than 既是并列连词，也是介词，是不是意味着：
1) He felt rather than saw = He felt rather than seeing He felt rather than saw the tree fall down.
2) He felt rather than seeing the tree fall down.
第二句显然没第一句好，第二句的felt有点指向不明
3）Lets finish the job today, rather than leaving it till tomorrow.
4）Lets finish the job today rather than leave it till tomorrow.
4无须逗号，4比3好。4表示你的选择，表达选择一种行为时，rather than作为连词用
5）Rather than go by air, Id take the slowest train
6）Rather than going by air, Id take the slowest train
同理，5比6好
章振邦P480在并列连词这一章节里，把rather than的作为连词的几个实例作了些说明，并指出，依据以上使用方法，rather than又可看作是一种复杂从属连词。
但我的看法是：依旧看作并列连词，不复杂化
